Great low glycemic index bar, Aug 26, 2010

I have been enjoying these bars (specifically Balance Bar Gold choc peanut butter and caramel nut blast) for several years... I am an insulin dependent diabetic and am always reading labels for protein/ carbohydrate and fat ratios. This is a great low glycemic bar and one of my mainstay travel snacks: a good protein bar which can carry me through if I am having low blood sugar between meals: some sweet with the longer burn of protein. My only current frustration is that with the recent packaging change, it seems that the bar was also changed to a much "softer" consistency. I carry them in my purse and now whenever I open one, it is partially melted and not easy to unwrap as half the bar is stuck to the wrapper. I no longer carry them in hot weather and use other hiking snacks, but even at my air conditioned office, this happens. I will start to keep them in the refrigerator or even try freezing them to be thawed by mid day? Manufacturer, some feedback:
the firmer bar traveled better!! |

I am a diabetic of 6 years and was looking for a low glycemic snack for while I am at work. In the nursing field you do not have much time for snacks. I have tried many other products and they just tasted aweful. The Balance bar has a great taste. My blood sugar was actually 215 before eating it as a bedtime snack. This morning when I woke, it was down to 145! What a major improvement. I would definately reccomend to anyone using the Glycemic Index or who is diabetic to try these bars.

One day when i was looking at nutrition and energy bars at my local food store i decided to try a new bar i had never seen before, a cookies n cream balance bar. It tasted like a candy bar and gave me more energy then powerbar, cliffbars, and everything else i had tryed. I highly recommend this over anything else out there. |

Delicious. Balance brand bars are one of the few nutrition bars I have ever tasted that do not taste like chalk. They taste like candy bars, but leave you very satisfied for a long time. They're a perfect meal-on-the-go or an afternoon pick me up snack. Yum! |
